DEFINITION: The word broadband is used to describle high-speed connection to the Internet. In other words, it is a "broad bandwidth" connection to the Internet that is capable of transmitting voice, video, images, animations, and instant messages. This connection can transmit multiple independent signals onto one cable. Since network traffic is bi-directional, broadband services allow both download and upload paths - asymmetrical services.
