DES

DEFINITION:

The initials, DES stand for Data Encryption Standard. DES is a standard crptographic algorithm encryption method. There are approximately 72 quadrillion possible encryption keys. Both receiver and sender must each know the private encryption key in order to decode transmitted data. The US government uses Triple-DES (or 3DES) when encrypting data.
