DEFINITION:

The initials NIC stand for Network Interface Card. A NIC is commonly known as: a computer circuit card, a PCMCIA device, a network adapter, an Ethernet adapter, or an expansion card. NICs are used to connect computers to networks. A NIC contains the hardware to support certain network types, such as 10BaseT Ethernet or a token ring type network.
