DEFINITION:

The initials, VPN, stand for Virtual Private Network. A private network (not available to the public) uses the public network to transfer information. For example, a private network between a home office and a business office (using security and encryption) used the Internet (a public infrastructure) to transfer (private) information. Unauthorized end users cannot access virtual private networks.
